Why?

Running away from your country is a hard decision you take when you do not have any other option left. Being safe is the most important feeling in this life. If you are not safe, you will never feel happy. In this world, there are people who do their best to save themselves and their lives, but sadly they do not get the chance. I interviewed Mr. Jonathan Martin, the attorney at Monterrey Law Firm PLLC, in Little Rock, Arkansas, with an intention to discuss legal problems that refugees and asylum seekers face in the U.S. We talked a lot and suddenly he told me these two stories you will hear in this video. They are stories about two previous asylum seekers, who are not Syrians, however, I felt that their stories should be heard. Since working on this portfolio, every time I feel that no other story will shock me more, a new story comes and breaks my heart. The sad thing is that Mr. Martin told me that he can tell me these two stories without breaking the confidentiality of his clients because these are very common stories for his clients. Please, prepare yourself to hear two horrible stories of two victims who fled their countries seeking protection. If you feel that watching this video may disturb you, do not watch it.

In the video, you will watch illustrations of the two stories that are being told. I would like to thank the Japanese artist Saori Kojima for designing them for this video. Kojima is currently a student at Arkansas Tech University, majoring in game design. To see more of her work and contact her you can reach her through her Instagram account: Geeeeenmai.
